Palchuk M. Public spaces of the city of Kyiv: socio-geographical research.

The thesis reveales the essence of the urban public space as an object of socio-geographical research, the modern directions of foreign researches of urban public spaces are systematized. It is determined that socio-geographical research of urban public spaces should be carried out from the standpoint of socio-spatial and political approaches, emphasizing the spatio-temporal analysis of the functioning of urban public spaces, the detailed consideration of the social dysfunction of the public space as a challange, and the analysis of the interaction of users with the public space. The method of socio-geographical research on urban public spaces is defined. The selection of three research stages (conceptual, analytical, evaluation and analytical-synthetic) and related research procedures are proposed. The spatio-temporal analysis of open and closed public spaces of Kyiv was conducted. The main factors of creation and placement of public spaces of Kyiv and directions of their modern transformations are defined.
