In the thesis the holistic analysis of the theory and practice of the development of social and pedagogical services and institutions for children in Ukraine in the second half of the twentieth century has been made; the degree of the development of the investigated problem has been analyzed; the sources of ideas of the organization of social and pedagogical services and institutions for children have been characterized; the stages of the development of these services and institutions for children in the investigated period have been substantiated; the directions, forms and methods of the activity of social and pedagogical services and institutions for children in the second half of the twentieth century have been generalized; the prospects of the creative use of pedagogically valuable ideas and experience of the activity of social and pedagogical services and institutions for children in Ukraine of the studied period in the current conditions of the formation of the Ukrainian state have been determined.
