Essay

The object of the research is the phenomenon of heterostereotipization of Ukraine in European quality online newspapers. The aim of the study is to identify and characterize the most common sources of heterostereotypization of Ukraine in European media-discourse. Methods: analysis, synthesis, abstraction, generalization, historical analysis, typology. The process of stereotypization in the media discourse of quality British, German and French newspapers was investigated with the help of the content analysis method. Specifically, for the content analysis study, AntConc 3.5.0 (Windows) was used. Heterostereotypical representations of Ukraine found in the European media discourse were studied with the help of conceptual analysis method. In the thesis, the new term which is “stereotype of the transitional period” was conceptually substantiated and introduced into scientific circulation, the preconditions of its emergence in mass-media discourse of high-quality British, German and French editions were revealed, its content and genesis were highlighted; the sources of heterostereotypization of Ukraine in the quality European online newspapers, such as literature, music, cinema and photography, were systematized and characterized; the stereotypical mass-media image of Ukraine of the post-Maidan period, represented through the scope of British, French and German quality editions, was disclosed. The obtained results and conclusions of the research can be applied while teaching the following disciplines: “Modern mass-media discourse”, “Methodology of research of social communications”, “Modern mass-media concepts”. The theoretical positions and empirical material, systematized and analyzed in the dissertation, can be used by professional communicators who deal with issues of the external image of Ukraine.
