Essay

The system of faculty training at US universities makes the object of the research. The research aim is to specify the peculiarities of the pedagogical component in the system of faculty training at US universities and to outline the prospects for application of the constructive ideas of the US experience in the higher education in Ukraine. The research methods: analysis and synthesis, comparative and retrospective analysis, induction, deduction, classification, systematization, comparison, observation, interviewing and surveillance, generalization, expert evaluations, implementation and expertise. For the first time the peculiarities of the pedagogical component of the faculty training at US universities have been specified; faculty training at US universities has been highlighted; pedagogical component of graduate faculty training, professional development at US universities has been characterized; the prospects for creative application of the constructive ideas of the American experience to faculty training in Ukraine have been outlined. The notions “mentoring”, “portfolio”, “course portfolio”, “tenure”, “assistantship” have been clarified. The ideas of organization of faculty professional development at a modern university basing on the integration of its traditional and innovative forms and methods have gained further development.
