Bochkovska V. Pochayiv spiritual center in the history and culture of Ukrainian people in the XVIII – 30 years of the XIX c.

In the submitted paper, the place and role of the Pochayiv Assumption Monastery in the history and culture of the Ukrainian people of the Unia period (XVIII – 30 years of the XIX c.) was defined for the first time, on the basis of a comprehensive analysis of published literature and complex investigation the newly discovered archival sources. The main directions of the church and religious activity of the Pochayiv Monastery, the essence of its religious practices, features of the preaching activities of the monastery and its inhabitants, the cult of the holy sites and their significance for inhabitants and pilgrims of the monastery are substantiated. It was proven that the church-religious activity of the Pochayiv Monastery synthesized the practices of the Orthodox and Uniate Churches. The investigation of the monastery’activity in the cultural and educational sphere (educational institutions, library, icon painting workshop) is explored. Described are the repertoire of Pochayiv printing house, the language of its publications and their peculiarities, the level of artistic design and contacts with other publishing centers. It was proven that the book publishing activity of the Pochayiv Monastery of the Uniate Period was a powerful contribution to the cultural treasury of the Ukrainian people and served as an important consolidating f actor for Ukrainian lands.
