The object of research: church building in the Southern Ukrainian lands. The aim of research: coverage of the history of Orthodox church buildingin the Southern Ukrainian lands from founding of the New Sich by the Zaporizhzhia Cossacks to the start of the counter-reforms of Alexander III and K. Pobedonostsev. The subject of research: Orthodox church building during the years 1734–1881in the South of Ukraine. The results of research: on the basis of a wide range of sources, for the first time in historiography, the history of Orthodox church building in the Southern Ukrainian landsfrom founding of the New Sich by the Zaporizhzhia Cossacks to the start of the counter-reforms of Alexander III and K. Pobedonostsev, was comprehensively studied. Changes in the configuration of the church network and the dynamics of church building in the region are traced in conjunction with changes in state policy, state borders and the boundaries of administrative-territorial units, took place during the study period and, in turn, were closely interconnected with the processes of settlement, colonization and economic development of the South. The introduction of scientific complexes of sources related to the history of Orthodox churches in the Southern Ukrainian landswas further developed; analysis of changes of the legislative regulation of issues related to the construction, reconstruction and liquidation of Orthodox religious buildingsduring 1734-1881; studies of church architecture in the region; reconstruction of procedures for obtaining permits for the laying and consecration of religious buildings; studying the history of individual churches.The sphere of usage: the further research of the current subject, writing of the synthesis works, manuals, reading of the high school courses on the history of Ukraine.
