Essay

The dissertation research is devoted to a comprehensive study of the formation and activity of Ukrainian military emigration in Germany in 1918-1945. It is established that the Ukrainian military emigration in Germany was created by prisoners of war of the former Russian army; soldiers of the Ukrainian armies of the period of the national revolution of 1917-1921; Ukrainians are fugitives from Polish internment camps or deserters from the Polish army. In close connection with the emigration to Germany were former Ukrainian soldiers who lived in the territory of the "free city" of Danzig (Gdańsk). Significant role in the Ukrainianization of prisoners' consciousness, repatriation to Ukraine and the social adaptation of those who remained in emigration were played by members of the Liberat ion Union of Ukraine, Ukrainian embassies, the Military-Sanitary Mission, and national charitable institutions.
