The object of research: Cossack era in the history of Ukraine with the characteristic features of the political system and institutions of power. The aim of research: to trace the ways of formation and development of state symbols of early Ukraine through the prism of the peculiarities of international political relations of the Zaporizhzhya Troops of the last third of the XVI - the end of the XVIII century. The subject of research: patterns and trends in the formation of Cossack symbols, the evolution of its constituent elements in the plane of foreign policy relations of the Cossacks with the Ottoman Empire, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Moscow State (Russian Empire) and the Holy Roman Empire of the German nation. The results of research: based on archival sources, it was established that the gradual loss of national control over the manufacture of the main Cossack inscriptions was a direct result of the incorporation policy of the Russian state with regard to Ukrainian lands. The evolution of visual images of the mace, diver and staff of Cossack hetman as the highest state symbols of Cossack Ukraine is analyzed. The place of the timpani in the formation of the Military (state) and Regimental music of the Zaporizhzhya Army as an integral element of the everyday and ceremonial culture of the Cossack communities of the XVI – XVIII-th centuries is revealed. The attention is focused on the first mention of the position of persons responsible for the preservation and protection of Cossack state symbols. The interpretation of the post of Dovbush as a Cossack official with the corresponding state functions is proposed. The sphere of usage: in the preparation of courses on the history of the Cossacks and the history of Ukraine as a whole, the history of the state, special historical disciplines, cultural studies. In addition, the materials of the dissertation research can be used in the production of policies on the patriotic education of Ukrainian citizens and the popularization of national state symbols.
