Basarab V. STATE-BUILDING CONCEPTION, NATIONAL AND PATRIOTIC IDEAS OF METROPOLITAN ANDREY SHEPTYCKYY

The dissertation is devoted to statehood ideas of Andrey Sheptyckyy, his critical attitude to communism, socialism, pacification and Nazism. It was considered the thoughts of Galician metropolitan about the necessary building basis of strong independent Ukraine, his ideas about the reforming of state authority, army, churches and educational institutions. In this thesis pastor dispatches of A. Sheptyckyy were analyzed in details. These dispatches show the problem of state-building and ideological orientation of political parties, movements and the imperial politics of countries-conquerors of Ukrainian territories were condemned. In this research the letters of Galician metropolitan to statesmen and clergymen and also the replies on them are considered for clear description of state outlook of Lord. Ecumenical ideas of A. Sheptyckyy are interpreted as reliable basis of national and spiritual revival of Ukraine, metropolitan vision of the role of Greek-Catholic church in the formation of Ukrainian statehood is outlined. It was tracked the evolution of statehood ideas of A. Sheptyckyy of the World War II period; it was emphasized on condemning of Hitler’s political regime by Galician metropolitan; it was found out political and church ideas of A. Sheptyckyy as regards Polish chauvinistic politics. A. Sheptyckyy created a kind of world outlook conception of happy society, the basis of which would have to be Christian values, strong family, different civil association the goal of which was moral and cultural development of personality, assistance of their self-realization in group with the help of evangelical commandments. Galician metropolitan emphasized on European values opposing to Russian mentality, condemned communistic and Nazism ideology and also such phenomenon as “pacification”.
