Essay

The thesis presents the results of historical and pedagogical foreign languages studying in higher education institutions of maritime profile in the 70s of 20th – the beginning of the 21st century. The object of research is the genesis of foreign language studying in higher education institutions of maritime profile. The subject of research – tendencies of foreign language studying in higher education institutions of maritime profile in the 70s of 20th – the beginning of the 21st century. The aim of research is to identify, on the basis of a comprehensive retrospective analysis of pedagogical theory and practice, the main tendencies of foreign languages studying in higher education institutions of maritime profile in the 70s of 20th – the beginning of the 21st centuries and to determine the main directions of extrapolation of historical and pedagogical experience into practice today. The scientific novelty of the dissertation research is that for the first time: the tendencies of foreign languages studying in higher education institutions of maritime profile in the 70s of the 20th – the beginning of the 21st century are revealed: paradigmatic; structural and educational, content, instrumental and methodological; the periodization of foreign language studying in higher education institutions of marine profile in the 1970s – the beginning of the 21st century has been defined and substantiated: I period (1978 – 1990) – unified; II period (1991 – 2002) – transformational; III period (2003 – 2017) – integration; the factors that influenced the development of foreign language studying of future specialists in maritime industry were identified: socio-economic, educational, sectoral; outlined the possibilities of actualization of productive ideas and historical and pedagogical experience of foreign languages studying as a compulsory component of professional training of future specialists of maritime profile in the present conditions (problem-oriented learning of foreign language with professional immersion; involvement native speakers in teaching process; teaching taking into account the basic level of knowledge; digitization of foreign language studying; providing a cross-cutting and cross-curricular approach in teaching foreign languages introduction of a dual form of foreign language teaching in a professional direction; creation of a repository of professional literature of the maritime industry in a foreign language; preparation of teachers of higher education institutions for textbook creation; teaching special subjects in foreign languages). The essence of the concepts «training of future specialists in the maritime industry», «foreign language professional language», «study of foreign languages in institutions of higher education of maritime profile» is clarified. The practical significance of the research is the fact that its results have been reflected in the developed methodological recommendations «Foreign languages studying in higher education institutions of maritime profile (1978 – 2017) ».
