Essay

In the submitted paper, the comprehensive analysis of formation and activity of Ukrainian sacral music centers of the end XVI – XVIII cent. was defined for the first time. The new interdisciplinary research vector of Ukrainian church music based on a combination of sources and methodology in the field of history, literary criticism and art criticism was proposed. The specifics of the activity of music centers in the Left Bank Ukraine and the Slobozhanshchyna and the forms of living of church and music centers on the lands of the Right Bank and Western Ukraine have been revealed. The activity of the music centers at the Kyiv Metropolitan Department and Pereyaslav Bishops' Residence was reconstructed for the first time. The activity of Ukrainian church choirs and composers in the capital cities and bishops' residences of the Russian Empire as so as the influence of Ukrainian spiritual music on Russian culture are investigated. It is proved hat the original Ukrainian church hymn was largely formed in the Kiev spiritual and educational centers such as Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. The Kiev-Pechersk Lavra printing house was the most powerful in terms of musical content and served as the main supplier of liturgical purposes for Ukrainian lands. For a long time, the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy was the main center of music education and a kind of "blacksmith of musicians" - songbirds, regents and composers.
