Essay

On the basis of comprehensive analyses of a wide range of bibliographic and historical sources the dissertation presents a theoretical generalization and the ways of solving the topical scientific (problem)task, that is to study the experience of engineering units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in demining the territory and facilities in international peacekeeping operations in 1992-2018 in order to use it in modern conditions. The state of scientific development of the topic is investigated and the source base of the research is characterized. The degree and directions of the impact that a group of interrelated factors had on the demining process in the former Yugoslavia, Angola, Southern Lebanon, Afghanistan and Iraq are determined. In particular, physical-geographical and natural-climatic conditions, as well as the methods of action of armed groups to mine objects and territories and the main types of explosive devices (improvised explosive devices) subject to demining are revealed. The experience of engineering units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in demining the territory and objects is generalized and systematized, the evolution of task types is traced, and the methods of search, destruction and neutralization of explosive devices (improvised explosive devices) are researched. Based on the use of a combination of special methods of historical research and in combination with mathematical methods of scientific research, rational ways of performing demining tasks and promising directions to develop portable means for search and detection of explosive objects are substantiated. The paper formulates recommendations as to the implementation of the results obtained into the practical activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in particular to increase the efficiency of the demining process and to advance combat capabilities of military units and subunits, to reduce the time of clearing the area of explosives (explosive devices) and to decrease losses among Ukrainian personnel and civilians. Keywords: Armed Forces of Ukraine, international peacekeeping and security operations, mine action, demining of territory and objects, explosive devices, improvised explosive devices.
