Essay

The dissertation is a comparative pedagogical study of the problem of teaching foreign languages in secondary schools in the United States and Ukraine. The introduction substantiates the relevance, reveals the state of scientific development of the research problem, defines the purpose, objectives, object, subject, highlights the theoretical and methodological principles, describes the methods, source base of the dissertation, reveals the scientific novelty and practical significance of the results. The dissertation considers the historical and pedagogical aspects of teaching foreign languages in the school education systems of the United States and Ukraine; the essence of modern concepts of teaching foreign languages is revealed, the peculiarities of using the competence approach as the basis of the process of teaching foreign languages in general education schools of the two countries are revealed. On the basis of comparative analysis similarities and differences in content and modern forms, methods, technologies of teaching foreign languages in secondary schools of Ukraine and the United States are opened up, the ways to use American experience and to improve the effectiveness of foreign language education in secondary schools of Ukraine are identified.
