The research of the territorial organization of the transport complex of Poltava region is carried out in the dissertation. The substantiation of the directions of its improvement is carried out. Theoretical and methodological principles of socio-geographical research of the region transport complex are analyzed, the essence of the transport complex as a holistic socio-geographical formation is revealed. The principles of formation of the region transport complex are substantiated. Methodical bases of social and geographical research of the regional transport complex are developed, which provide for the implementation of the following stages of the research: theoretical and methodological, which involves the study of the transport complex as a holistic formation; study of factors of formation of a transport complex; system-structural analysis; forecast, which provides for the analysis of the impact of transport communications on the socio-economic efficiency of economic development of the region, the definition of the main areas of improvement of the territorial organization of the transport complex.
