Object: the process of socialization of pedagogical university students in extracurricular activities. The purpose of the study is to scientifically and theoretically substantiate, develop and experimentally test the system of socialization of student youth of the Pedagogical University in extracurricular activities by means of folk decorative and applied arts. The study of the socialization of student youth of the Pedagogical University in extracurricular activities by means of folk decorative and applied arts as a scientific problem. The extracurricular activity of the pedagogical university as a mechanism of socialization of student youth is characterized. The pedagogical potential of folk decorative and applied art as a means of socialization of student youth is revealed. Criteria, indicators and levels of formation of socialization of students of pedagogical university on the basis of folk decorative and applied art are developed. Forms and methods of extracurricular activities in higher education institutions in the context of socialization of students on the basis of folk decorative and applied arts have been improved. The system of socialization of student youth of pedagogical university in extracurricular activities by means of folk decorative and applied art is theoretically substantiated, which includes target, conceptual, subjective, content-technological, diagnostic-effective blocks; the characteristics of each of the system components are presented. An optional course for students of pedagogical universities "Folk Decorative and Applied Arts" has been developed; created a method of diagnosing the socialization of students on the basis of folk decorative and applied arts. The effectiveness of the proposed system of socialization of student youth of the Pedagogical University in extracurricular activities by means of folk decorative and applied arts and the feasibility of its implementation in the practice of pedagogical institutions of higher education. The dissertation materials can be used in the process of: compiling educational and working curricula, writing textbooks and manuals, preparation of course and final qualifying works; conducting scientific and methodical seminars, master classes, trainings in the system of professional development of pedagogical workers.
