Karanda I. Socio-political activity of Zinovy Pelensky

The dissertation notes that the architecture of Zinovy Pelensky's worldview has many features due to the specifics of the socio-political situation in the region, as well as his personal qualities and character traits. The formation of Zinovy Pelensky's worldview was influenced by a number of factors, among which the basic ones were: family environment; education in a Ukrainian-language rural school and gymnasium; active participation in the student movement; acquaintance with a number of nationally conscious Ukrainian public and political figures, etc. At the level of microhistory, Zinovy Pelensky's biography of his youth shows many interesting details that convey the nature of the Ukrainian-Polish confrontation in Galicia, the contradictions of national and cultural policy of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the scale of terror of the Russian occupation authorities during the First World War. On the other hand, the basis of the expressive national-patriotic consciousness of Zinovy Pelensky was laid by educational and scientific institutions of Galicia, which were actively aware of the work among the Ukrainian population of the region. Thanks to them, Zynova Pelensky became one of the leaders of the Sich student society, took part in the Polish-Ukrainian war in the Ukrainian Galician Army, and joined the UNDO.
