Kostyshyn R. Socio-political activity of Volodymyr Kokhan (1898-1966)

The dissertation research analyzes the main directions of socio-political activity of Volodymyr Kokhan in the 1920-60s through the prism of socio-political processes in the region. Emphasis is placed on the peculiarities of the formation of his worldview, in particular, it is shown that the basis of expressive national and patriotic consciousness of V. Kokhan laid family values, as well as educational, public institutions of Galicia, which conducted active awareness among the Ukrainian population. The contribution of the politician to the activity of the Ukrainian Military Organization (UMO) is considered, the circle of his like-minded people is singled out, among which are the future leaders of the national-state parties of Galicia, national-cultural organizations of the region. It is noted that while in the UVO during the national liberation struggle, the Polish-Ukrainian war of 1918-1919, he made considerable efforts to protect the national, cultural, socio-political rights of Ukrainians in Galicia. It was found that in the mid 1920s, as a member of the Ukrainian National Labor Party (UPNR), he was one of the active supporters of the formation of the Ukrainian National Democratic Union (UNDO). The organizational and political work of the well-known politician is characterized, the struggle of one of the leaders of the Ukrainian national democracy for raising the national consciousness of the Ukrainians of Galicia is illustrated by concrete examples. Through the prism of V. Kokhan political biography, the complex intertwining of political, social and national aspects of the Ukrainian socio-political movement in the period under study is shown. In general, the parliamentary work of W. Kohan in the highest legislative body of Poland is characterized, it is proved that since 1928 the party activity for one of the leaders of the National Democrats has receded into the background, giving way to parliamentary work.
