Gariga-Grihno M. The Old East Slavic kurgan antiquities of Chernihovo-Sivershchyna in academic and socio-cultural life of the region.

In the dissertation study on the basis of a wide range of actual sources,a place ofthe Old East Slavic kurgan antiquitiesof Chernihiv-Sivershschynain the scientific and socio-cultural life of the region is determined.The state of scientific development of the problem is determined, the source base of work is characterized, theoretical and methodological principles are justified,in particular the use of principles and methods of research.The main stages of research and historiographical interpretation of kurgan antiquities are established.The process of origin and development of interest in thekurgan grave fields of Chernihovo-Sivershchynain the second half of the XVII – XVIII centuries.,are characterized, the contribution of certain scholars in the study of these antiquities is revealed.The main directions of activity of scientific institutions of the second half of the ХІХ century are established, in the field of study of burial antiquities.The process of the methodology improvement for studying of kurgan antiquities in scientific practices of D. J. Samokvasov and other scientists-archaeologists of the second half of the ХІХ – early ХХ cents. is analyzed.A range ofhistoric preservation and popularization activities concerning kurgan antiquities of the Chernihiv province is outlined.The studies of the kurgans of the Chernihiv region in the Soviet era are characterized in terms of improving the methodology of archaeological studies. The influence of the ideological factor on the establishment of ethnic and social affiliations of those buried in kurgan gravefields is determined.The main directions of the study of kurgan antiquities at the present stage are clarified. Measures to preserve kurgan antiquities are determined as well as their popularization in the media, local-tourist work and cultural-artistic life.
