Essay

The thesis is devoted to a complex study of the Lyzohub family in the socio-political and socio-cultural life of Ukraine in the second half of the 17th – early 20th centuries. The work outlines the main directions of studying the House of Lyzohub. The source base of the study covered written, visual and material sources, which were attracted from the archives, museums and libraries of Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sedniv, Sumy, Moscow and St. Petersburg. As part of the methodological tools of the so-called “new family history”, ten generations of the family were analyzed. The nobilitation of the family in Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth was refuted, but instead clarifying information was provided on the Lysohubs' receipt of the nobility in Tsardom of Russia. The work also allowed to learn about the features of marital, property and legal interactions of the vast majority of Lyzohubs, which significantly improved the understanding of the place of this noble House in the changing socio-political and socio-cultural processes of the 17th – early 20th centuries. On the basis of the research materials, the most complete genealogical list of the Lyzohub family has been compiled. It included 81 males and 83 females among the bearers of the surname Lyzohub from birth The practical significance of the study lies in the possibility of using the provisions and conclusions of the work in the process of teaching the history of Ukraine, historical local lore, preparation of textbooks, as well as tourist and local lore literature. Key words: Lyzohubs, family, Ukraine, new family history, socio-political life, socio-cultural life.
