Essay

Thesis clarifies the essence of the phenomenon of «social self-determination of the teenager» and outlines the priorities of its understanding and application in pedagogical science and practice of the first half of the XX century; the tendencies of development of traditional and innovative features of self-determination of the child’s personality and its value orientations in the educational space of the first half of the XX century are singled out; the content and means of formation of social self-determination of teenagers in pedagogical technologies of Waldorf school (R. Steiner), Chicago school-laboratory (J. Dewey) and innovative educational institutions (colony and commune) of A. Makarenko are characterized; the correlations of tendencies of formation of social self-determination of teenagers in education of the period chosen for research on the basis of author’s criteria are specified and concretized; the ways of actualization of progressive tendencies of self-determination of the teenager’s personality in the modern system of education are revealed.
