Object of study – the features of growth and development of winter wheat plants, assessment of the level of resistance of collection samples to major diseases. Purpose – is to determine the selection value of world resources of winter wheat in terms of resistance to major diseases in the conditions of the Southern Forest-Steppe of Ukraine and to determine a number of sources of economically valuable traits. Methods – general scientific (analysis, synthesis, observation, comparison, measurement, etc.), special (field, laboratory-field, laboratory, certified generally accepted scientific methods), mathematical-statistical and computational-comparative. Results – in the conditions of the southern part of the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine the screening and identification of the collection material of winter wheat according to the indicator of stability was carried out; the dependence of economic and biological features on the degree of damage to the complex of diseases is established; new sources with group resistance to a complex of diseases in the conditions of the southern part of the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine, characterized by other selection and valuable traits, have been identified; by selecting selection and genetic material, a variety of soft winter wheat Korovaina was created (Author's certificate № 190330). 8 samples of plant gene pool were registered in Ukraine (Line 831-10, Certificate № 825, 2011; Line 833-10, Certificate № 826, 2011; Line LCH 821/10, Certificate № 1175, 2014; Line LC 117/12, Certificate № 1176, 2014; Line Er4KH, Certificate № 1521, 2016; Line Er 6794-06, Certificate № 1734, 2017; Line G 245-06, Certificate № 1735, 2017; Line Er 1066-06, Certificate № 1736, 2017). Novelty – scientific substantiation and solution of an important scientific problem regarding the development of scientific bases of selection of winter wheat for disease resistance in the conditions of the Southern Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. It differs from previously known studies in the formation and comprehensive study of the world's genetic diversity of soft winter wheat, selection and genetic assessment and selection of promising material on the basis of stability and economic and biological characteristics. The scientific value – based on the study, analysis and systematization of the studied material of winter wheat created a collection of disease resistance for use in scientific, breeding and educational programs. A high-yielding and highly disease-resistant variety of Korovaina has been created, the use of which in production allows to reduce the pesticide load and to increase the biologization of wheat cultivation technology to a greater extent.
