Essay

The thesis is devoted to a complex study of Alexander F. Lindfors in the socio-political life of Ukraine in the second half of the 19th century. Despite his direct involvement in many socio-political processes in the Russian Empire and Ukraine in particular, not many publications are devoted to the person of A. Lindfors. If I. Petrunkevych, his colleague in the field of introduction of constitutional ideas in the zemstvo environment, left a noticeable mark in the professional historical literature, then in the case of A. Lindfors we find a noticeable gap with a limited number of scholars who were interested in covering the work of the “radical lawyer” in Chernihiv zemstvo and other areas of activity. The situation encourages a generalized study that could answer the question of the role and place of the personality of A. Lindfors in the history of state formation in Ukraine, as well as the reality of his characteristics as “one of the initiators and activists of the Zemstvo constitutional movement”. The practical significance of the study lies in the possibility of using the provisions and conclusions of the work in the process of teaching the history of Ukraine, historical local lore, preparation of textbooks, as well as tourist and local lore literature. Key words: Lindfors, Zemstvo, constitutionalism, radical lawyer, Russian Empire.
