Definition and regulation of social protection of economically active population. Foundations for improvements in economically active population's social protection mechanism considering features of transitional economy and market economy formation. Methods used are system analysis, statistical, economic-mathematical, comparison, balance, graphical study. New approaches to formation and development of social policy and social protection of economically active population are developed. Practical outcomes are recommendations for specific improvements in social protection of economically active population mechanism, which is implemented by state bodies of Ukraine (Ministry of Labor and Ministry of Economy). Foundations for efficient operation of social protection of economically active population system are also developed. Field of usage for obtained results is implementation of state social policy.
