It was found that by the end of the sixth week of the intranatal development in the embryo's body the changes in the system of cardinal veins take place which result in the appearance of the azygos and hemiazygos veins. The most intense growth of them is observed on the 8th week of the prenatal period and the 7th week of the natal period. During the prenatal period of ontogenesis there takes place a gradual shift of the mouth part of this veins relative to the spine in a caudal direction. The variability of azygos and hemiazygos veins during prenatal and natal periods and in new-borns is due to the peculiarities of the development of cardinal veins during the first two months of the embrional development.
