The author made the analyses of the main directions, contents and forms of pedagogical, scientific and teaching activity of the Gromads in the context of social movement in the Nadnipryanska Ukraine in the second half of the XIX - in the begining of the XX century. The author lighted out and characterized the main periods of the development of Ukrainian Gromads' scientific and teaching activity (the 60-th - the becoming of pedagogical and teaching activity; the 70-th - the growth of the scientific and teaching activity; the 80-th - the unification of the scientific and teaching strength around the Gromads' magazine "Kievskaya starina"; the 90-th - the consolidation of the Gromads members in the All Ukrainian Organization of Gromads; 1900-1907 - the struggle of the Ukrainian Gromads' members for native school).
