The dissertation examines the processes of development of a personality, formation of its outlook and its functioning in a split civilization under the influence of upbringing and education. Pointed out are important general theoretical and applied problems of genesis, evolution and decay of a civilization as the natural historical process, that plays an important methodological role in cognition and understanding of not merely history, but also the processes of cultural development and systems of upbringing and education. Many-sidedness and versatility of the historical process leads to various classifications of civilizations, and the criteria of those classifications can be, technological, cultural, national, ethnic, geographical, religious, ideological and other constituents. The analysis of existence of civilizations is based on historic, comparative, social, philosophic, structural, functional, synergetic, futurological and other research methods, which, in a relatively integral civilization, allow to scan the outlook and activities of different layers, groups, classes, authorities and institutions of civic society, to evaluate the role of systems of upbringing and education of a personality. In a split civilization, a personality experiences the multivector influence, its orientation values are formed in the situation of a complex choice where consciousness and actions are constantly undergoing correction through various objective and subjective circumstances. Under these circumstances, identification and self-determination of a personality are connected with solving contradictory cultural, spiritual, ideological, ethnic, national and other problems. As a result, a personality suffers constant stresses being forced to execute reorientation of established values. Accordingly, in split civilizations systems of upbringing are relatively unstable, yielding to various political and ideological influences. Therefore, the state is forced to increase its regulatory function towards them, as compared to relatively integral civilizations. The role of education for a personality's "civilized" formation is viewed in this dissertation in the context of cardinal social changes, all of which combined transform the activity of people and society, in philosophy of life, in philosophy of education. The changes of the educational paradigm in Ukraine are determined by the changes in its economy, politics and culture, alongside globalization and computerizing of the world. In this work, the author shows the ways and means of reforming the systems of upbringing and education, pointing out the role of philosophy of education in determining goals and tasks for their development in Ukraine.
