Lyman I. The Orthodox Church in the South of Ukraine (1775-1861 years)

The object of study – church history of Southern Ukraine. The purpose of study is reconstruction of historical development of orthodox church in South Ukraine region in 1775- 1861, definition of features of a control system, church-territorial device of territory, status of clergy of the South, relation subordinated of spiritual department with parishioners. The methods used in the research are: historical, logic, ascention from abstract to concrete, ascention from concrete to abstract, historical-genetic, historical-typological, historical-system, classification, comparative, textological, hermeneutical, quantitative analysis, heuristic. The practical value of the dissertation consists in use of its ideas and conclusions at creation of generalizing researches on a history of Southern Ukraine of last quarter XVIII - middle XIX century, on a history of religion, by development of the high school and school textbooks. The dissertation is a first complex study of the Orthodox Church in the South of Ukraine of the last quarter of the XVIII - the middle of the XIX century, accomplished on the base of numerous primary sources. The system of ruling by Church is reconstructed. The process of development of dioceses, states’ regulation and practice of church’s building, problems of church’s landowning, development of the system of clerical scholastic institutions are studied. Established in historiography conceptions of composition, procedure of composition, variations of strength, social status, endowment of the groups of clergy are corrected. Influence of the role of the Church in system of social-state relations on regulation of functions of the clergy quoad parishioners is studied. The research of particularities of the mission and sanctions against tergiversation is developed. Peculiar qualities of Popular Religion, their dependence upon traditions, historical conditions, steps of the Orthodox Church are enucleated.
