Essay

The dissertation brings thorough and systemic analysis of social, political, human-related and international problems caused by Chernobyl catastrophe as well as review of the Ukrainian state attempts to solve them after 1991. The research is grounded on solid documentary basis, a number of new and previously unpublished documents and research materials presented. The thesis also deals with ecological and medical aspects of the Chernobyl, it's influence on the life-styles and quality of life of millions of people. The ethical aspects of post-Chernobyl syndrome are also taken into account. Special attention is paid to the analysis of legal and social status of the part of Ukrainian population which has experienced direct impact of Chernobyl. The problems related to the closing down of Chernobyl nuclear plant as well as to the Shelter functioning are also analyzed.
