Essay

The object of study - the History of Ukraine during World War II. The purpose of research is the complex analysis of the life of the population of Kharkiv during the German occupation. The methods used in the research are: the problem-chronological, synchronous, diachronic, comparative-historical methods, the method of the complex source analysis. In the thesis the fate of the population of Kharkiv, the largest city of the USSR occupied by Wehrmacht (1941-1943) has been studied. On the basis of the wide range of Soviet and foreign sources the structure and the essence of the established "new order", the hesitation of the policy of the military between the ideological postulates and the demands of the front have been shown. The Ukrainian auxiliary administration, anti-Bolshevist forces and movements, including the nobility organization, Western Ukrainian nationalist groups, local nationalists-Dolenkovists, "Prosvita" and others, have been specially investigated. The criticalrevision has been given to the ideogeme of the efficient guidance of the Communist Party given to the nation-wide struggle. The general picture of the life of common people in the occupied city has been comprehensively recreated. The changes in the demographic composition of Kharkovites, the material, legal, social, psychological and cultural conditions of their lives have been analyzed. The statistics of the victims of the war has been analyzed in detail.
