Essay

The dissertation is devoted to a comprehensive research in the processes of formation and realization of the national policy of the Russian empire in Right-Bank Ukraine from the time of its joining to Russia after the partition of the Polish Republic and up to the beginning of World War I. Traced are general trends and revealed are peculiarities of this policy in the given area, established are conditions which determined them. It is proved that Right-Bank Ukraine was a region of a harsh Russian-Polish and Polish-Ukrainian confrontation and occupied a special place in the system of administrative-territorial units of the empire. It is pointed that the coexistence of the different ethnos in the region was affected through the struggle of the governmental politics of russification of the South-West region with the ancient traditions of its polonization. The essence of Polish, Ukrainian and Jewish questions in Russian Empire was studied and their peculiarities in Right-Bank Ukrainian Provinces were shown.The conditions and circumstances of appearance of the most important legislative acts concerning Poles, Ukrainians and Jews, were determined; the process and consequences of their realization in Right-Bank Ukraine was traced back.
