Essay

Subject: optimization criteria of technological processes and methods for the improvement of seed quality of hybrids and self-pollinated lines of maize under different systems of its treatment and storage. Aim: to postulate and substantiate theoretically the peculiarities in the formation of quality in seeds of hybrids and lines of maize under treating and storing; to work out some methods for the sowing qualities' improvement and yielding properties of seed material and new techniques for energy-consuming reduction for seed production. Methods: laboratory, field, experimental-industrial, mathematical-statistical. Novelty: for the first time there is presented a scientific substantiation on optimization of technological processes and new methods for the improvement of sowing qualities and yielding properties of maize seeds under different systems of its treatment and storage. There is proved the efficiency of new methods for determination of seed quality for its fast and final control at maize treatment and storage. Results: there are worked out and tested new technologies, methods and technical tools for the improvement of maize seed production state, which are of a great practical importance and effectiveness; there is prepared a set of methodical recommendations for the improvement of after-harvest and before-sowing treatments of maize seeds. Application stage: in co-authorship there are worked out 2 state and one branch standards on maize seed certification and technological processes of its production; there are released 6 maize hybrids out of these 2 hs entered the Plant Variety List of Ukraine in 2007 and 4 hs were transfered to state trials. Application area: maize seed production and seed science.
