Essay

Object: genetic material, a number of genetic factors determining the grain quality traits in wheat breeding. Purpose: to study the genetic control of wheat grain quality and to develop new wheat varieties of the special grain quality end-use. Methods: cytology, interspecific crosses, electrophoresis, statistics. Novelty: mapping on the short arm of chromosome 1B of the Gli-B1 locus coding for the gliadin protein biosynthesis; genetic control and inheritance of the amylolitic enzymes of wheat grain; genetic structure of the Gli-alleles as a multi-gene clusters on the base of N-terminal amino acid sequence; introgression of the exotic Gli/Glu alleles from wild relatives to cultivated wheat to improve its grain quality. Results: the new ways of genetic improvement of wheat grain quality were developed; the new methods for wheat quality evaluation were introduced in wheat breeding. Application stage: 3 author certificates on winter bread wheat varieties (2 of them – Russia), 3 patents (1 – about invention, Ukraine; 2 – on wheat varieties, Russia). Application area: research establishments of NAS of Ukraine; UAAS, MES, MAP of Ukraine
