Essay

An object is a peasantry of the Dnieper region in Ukraine in the first decades of the 20th century as a social and cultural phenomenon. A purpose is an analysis of transformations of peasantry as a social community and his culture in the conditions of modernization and revolutionary transformations of the first decades of the 20th century. Investigation methods are social and cultural approaches, the elements of the constructivism, dialectical and comparative approaches, cultural-genetic method, semiotics, historical-typological, system mode, chronologic, terminology analysis, induction and deduction, extrapolation, historical interpretation, social modeling. A scientific novelty is determined by raising of problem and by complex solution of the question. Also novelty of study consists in the new reading and interpretation of facts and documents, their theoretical comprehension and construction of own explanatory model. In author's opinion the basic descriptions of peasant culture were determined by sympractic character. In the conditions of speed-up modernization, revolution and civil war there was washing out of world view principles of peasantry which affected his morale, attitude to religion, labour, traditions etc. Influence of peasantry in a great deal defined development of political situation in the period of revolution and civil war, played an important role in becoming of the new social formation. A sphere is an educational process.
