Essay

The object is a tradition of cultural and ontological basis of European civilization. The aim is to study the essence and structure of the modern tradition. The methods are dialectical, hermeneutic, phenomenological, and system-civilizational approaches. On the basis of the analysis, it is proved that the process of tradition includes not only the past, but also the present and influences the future. It's stated that the modern tradition is to be considered as consisting of three co-existing parts related in complex mutual ties: traditionalism, conservatism, and modernism. Thus an attempt of a new approach to understanding the value of the tradition as a factor of forming and maintaining the stability of a social universum is undertaken. The tradition is regarded as a kind of game with certain established rules. Some parts of the tradition through the form of their realization are involved in other games, such as modernization or revolution. Possible alternatives of the future development of the Ukrainian society are specified. Application sphere is the training courses.
