The paper presents the conceptual analysis of national identity, determines its content and reveals its structural-functional role in the process of nation formation in the broad context of political, economic and sociocultural transformations of the globalized world. The study proves that globalization as a qualitatively new stage of natural historical development of mankind weakens the national structures at all levels of their expression.
