The paper offers a comprehensive research on the development of domestic and international grain trade in Southern Ukraine in the XIXth century, partaking in it representatives of different social groups as well as different economic households of the time. On the voluminous documentary data, namely archival resources and promulgated statistic data, the first historiographic representation of historical milieu for grain market formation is given; the directions and volumes of supply are identified, the means of shipment are characterized. The role of key participants is meticulously described. The focus is on state policy in this field, regional customs system restructuring, as well as factors underlying price policy on one of key commodities in civilized world. The research conducted entails with the key conclusion that the end of the XIXth century should be identified as the final stage of grain market formation at vast European territories of the Russian empire, with Ukrainian southern lands being an integral part of it.
