Abakumova V. Men of culture in Ukraine in the period of system changes in the period of 1985-1991.

The attempt to make the picture of scientific formation of the historical development of men of culture in the period of 1985-1991 has been done on a wide basis of sources in this thesis. The main attention of this research is paid to such key problems as: social development, driving factors of creative work, reformation of professional, trade sphere, a social position. It is proved that the reformation of professional sphere of men of culture besides positive results made some dissimilar phenomena which exist in native culture today very actual and vital. It became clear that different men of culture expressed their attitude to the reforms and social-political processes differently due to their various, dissimilar level of realization and expression of social, group and personal interests. It is stated that transformational processes became spiritual and social losses for men of culture. It is grounded that the development of social base of Ukrainian culture has been characterized by quite polar tendencies. It is necessary to mention that the nationally conscious vanguard of men of culture was a driving force during all key historical events in this period and contributed to the creation of intellectual and spiritual basis to achieve Ukrainian independence.
