Gerasimenko I. Cultural linguistic interpretation of colour terms in Russian language space

The subject area is the adjectives denoting concrete and non-concrete colours. The objective of the research is complex investigation of linguocultural semantics of the colour terms proper, words with non-concrete spectral meaning; the analysis of ambivalence, interchangeability and polysemantics of colour terms; the consideration of the combinations type (free, set expressions) that include colour terms, taking into account combinative power and intertextual connections, finding out the ways of increasing the number of colour terms with account of linguocultural factors. The methodology of the research is descriptive; componential analysis, distributive analysis; contextual and quantitative calculations. Scientific novelty lies in the fact that for the first time from the point of view of cultural linguistics complex investigation of the semantics of colour terms classified according to the structural and lexico-semantic groups in the Russian language was carried out. For the first time with account of modern etymological reconstructions (M. O. Lutsenko) and the theory of the stages of colour terms development (W. U. Terner, B. Berlin, P. Key) linguocultural meanings of colour terms with primary colour nomination are described, the reasons of their ambivalence and interchangeability are analyzed. Practical value is in the possible use in courses on the problems of semasiology and onomasiology, special courses connected with the word semantic structure study, special seminars on linguistic cultural studies.
