Object - the process of professional training of prospective teachers of physical culture in pedagogical institutes of higher education; the aim - to substantiate theoretical and methodological foundations of training prospective teachers of physical culture to professional activity in secondary educational establishments, to work out and test the efficiency of its scientific-methodological supply system; methods - theoretical, empirical, of mathematical statistics; novelty - the research has been the first to provide the theoretical substantiation of the conception of training prospective teachers of physical culture to professional activity in secondary educational establishments; the system of scientific-methodological supply for training prospective teachers of physical culture to professional activity and the content-structural model of its implementation have been scientifically investigated; the teaching and methodological support components for the implementation of the system of professional training of prospective teachers of physical culture have been worked out; pedagogical conditions providing for the efficient professional training of prospective teachers of physical culture have been analysed and implemented in the teaching process of pedagogical institutes of higher education; the criteria and indices of the levels of prospective teachers of physical culture readiness formation have been specified; methodological and theoretical foundations of training prospective teachers of physical culture to professional activity have acquired further investigation; results - theoretical ideas and conclusions of the research deepen the understanding of the strategy of professional-pedagogical education improvement in physical education and create the grounds for the scientific support of prospective teachers of physical culture training to organizing a comprehensive pedagogical process of pupils' physical culture forming, its management, modification of the content of physical culture teacher's professional development programme. The discipline programmes and the teaching programmes that have been experimentally tested and methodological recommendations prepared on the basis of the materials of the research are recommended for the use in the practice of professional training of teachers of physical culture; field - pedagogy
