Essay

The present thesis is dedicated to study the pace of spontaneous mutation process in natural populations of Drosophila melanogaster from Ukraine, as well as factors that affect mutation events. We found that a global "mutation outburst" has been going on in natural drosophila populations in Ukraine since 2011, and for first time this process is revealed in a heritable defect of the development of the second longitudinal wing vein. We demonstrate that the frequencies of lethal sex-linked mutations and crossing over differ both among populations and within one population from year to year.
