Essay

This research focuses on the artistic radio broadcasting as a component of social communications system. The specificity of the radioart and artistic and publicistic programmes' social impact is analysed. It has been proven that artistic radio broadcasting as a social self-regulation communication mechanism has important features. They are predetermined by two factors: a considerable strength of psychological and emotional impact and the impossibility to use this impact intentionally and predictably, in line with the commercial or political conjuncture. This phenomenon is connected with the psychophysiological peculiarities of information perception via the acoustic channel, which were comparatively well explored in the previous century. In extreme cases the power of uncontrolled impact on the audience, inherent to artistic radio broadcasts, caused the affects (so called "radio panic"). But due to the same psychophysiological peculiarities the artistic radio broadcast is an effective means of increasing listener's criticality threshold, the development of independent thinking skills and empathy. In many countries this has led to a conflict between the producers of artistic radio broadcasts and the totalitarian regimes. The practical aspects of research are connected with the information safety and the optimization of radio broadcasts' production.
