Segeda S. Ukrainian military press as a factor of creation of national army (XX - beginning of XXI century)

The dissertation is devoted to a systematic study of the phenomenon of the Ukrainian military press in the XX - XXI century. The author considers emergence and development of the military press as interrelated periods of the same process according to the approach of ukrainocentrism. In the dissertation are also analyzed historical aspects of the military press emergence in different regions of Ukraine and the periodization of its development. The author distinguishes four periods of the process of creation, functioning and transformation of the Ukrainian military periodicals which connected to the process of creation of the army. The 1st period (1911-1920) is the time of emergence, growth and reduction of the military press system during the national liberation war. Functioning of Ukrainian periodicals in camps of prisoners of war (POW) was an important part during this period (1914-1920). 2nd period (1920-1939) is characterized by transforming of Ukrainian military periodicals to the system of military press of POW camps as well as the press of the Ukrainian military and paramilitary organizations and governmental military institutions. The periodicals of this period reflect the evolution of Ukrainian military doctrine and develop Ukrainian traditions of the national military press. During the 3rd period (1939-1991) there were military press of the Ukrainian insurgent army, the press of nationalist underground armed organisations during the Second World War as well as foreign media of Ukrainian combat organizations during the "Cold War". It also contributed to further development of the Ukrainian military doctrine and views. The 4th period (1991-2011) covers the creation and development of the printing institutions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations. This period is characterized by close connection with the process of military development since Ukraine's independence. The author described the process of forming of the media system of the modern Armed Forces of Ukraine and outlined the ways of its informational and propagandistic optimization. The Author divided each period into stages which are related to historical development of the Ukrainian army.
