Essay

The sources of Ukrainian elite formation have beenfound. The social status of Western Volyn Ukrainian elite in the conditions of Poland’s assimilation policyhas been outlined. The peculiarities of Ukrainian elite people’s activity through the prism of civicsocieties, political parties and the work of parliament have been analyzed. It has been shown that Ukrainian elite was conductive to the development of education, culture and encouraged the compatriots in their participating in the cooperative movement. Religious elite has been consideredas a systematizing element of the people’s spiritual values. The principal ideas of the intellectuals’scientific and journalistic works have been characterized and defined.
