Kuzmuk A. Formation and evolution of the Military organization (security and defense sector) of Ukraine (1991-2012)

Doctoral thesis in Military Science, speciality 20.02.22 - military history. - The National Defense University of Ukraine named after Ivan Cherniakhivskyi, Kyiv, 2013. The thesis is devoted to the research of the historical experience of formation and evolution of the Military organization (security and defense sector) of Ukraine. The researcher has thoroughly analyzed military and political, military and strategic, military and technical conditions of formation and evolution of the Military organization (security and defense sector) of Ukraine. The analysis of dialectical development of the Military organization (security and defense sector) of Ukraine as the assembly of elements which creates the entire system closely related to the society and state economic complex has been carried out; the dynamics of the relevant structural changes and solved tasks in the context of influence of internal and external factors has been studied. The author has conducted the historical reconstruction of the activity of the bodies of state power and military management in the sphere of development and reformation of the Military organization (security and defense sector) of Ukraine; the researcher has reproduced the main tendencies and peculiarities of these processes in the framework of those historical conditions. The main reasons which determined the choice of the national model of military organization and the ways of its further reformation have been found out. The researcher suggests the ways of realization of the rational balance between the level of military power, real defense needs and state's economic opportunities in order to be committed to the principle of defensive sufficiency in the sphere of military organization of Ukraine. The experience of formation and functioning of the National Guard of Ukraine as valuable contribution to the treasury of the Ukrainian state formation has been generalized. The author has analyzed the evolution of the Military doctrine of Ukraine, has carried out the critical analysis of the content of Military doctrines 1993, 2004 and 2012. The preconditions and needs of transformation of Military organization of Ukraine into the state security and defense sector has been found out; the basic data to introduce the term "security and defense sector" in the legislative environment of Ukraine have been formulated.
