Essay

In this thesis the evolution of European leisure as a cultural practice and a subject of theoretical reflections is studied. The dialectics of freedom and necessity in leisure practices of antiquity is analyzed. Leisure deontology in the systems of Platon and Aristotle, peculiarities of its idealization in the philosophy of epikureizm and stoicism are characterized. The character of medieval leisure as inversive, which is implicated by dichotomy of corporeal and spiritual in Christian dogmatism is defined. Synchronic theoretical reflection of leisure is reduced to paradigmatic problem of will freedom, redescription of which on the basis of anthropocentrism has to be considered as a source of renaissance leisure practices legitimation, is proved. The genesis of elite leisure practices in the boundaries of the Age of Enlightenment philosophy is outlined. The specifics of leisure scientific reflection of the XIX - beg. of the XXI cent. is characterized, peculiarities of leisure practices in conditions of industrial revolution (XIX cent.), mass (XX cent.) and virtual (XXI cent.) culture are determined.
