Essay

The author analyzes the journalism of the second half of 19th - the first third of the 20th century in the context of Ukrainian national awareness formation. On the basis of journalistic heritage by the most representative figures of this period the author investigates the content, functions and components of national identification. Periodic regarded as a fundamental factor of national identity model. The author emphasizes transforming mission of the written word. Shared information and communication space is treated as the essential element of national identity matrix, and journalism in particular - as its visualization, descriptive field.
