Essay

Based on the numerous sources the origin of the "Cossack society" institution, stages of evolution and transformation of neuryadova starshyna's different groups have been studied. The structure, hierarchy, basic functions have been revealed and the personal staff of significant military society of 17th - early 18th century has been extended. The period of emergence and evolution of all neuryadova starshyna ranks in 18th century (bunchukove, znachkove and military societies) have been defined. Its essence, status (subordinate, judicial immunity, privilege), population dynamics and staff, economic capacity and function have been revealed.
