Essay

Policy of korenizatsia, namely, its main trends, character and purposes concerning different nations in the interwar period is investigated in the dissertation. The research encompasses the territory of the Crimean ASSR where korenizatsia had important specific features. Administrative, economic, social and humanitarian components of korenizatsia were reconstructed; contribution of different ethnic elites was described. Korenizatsia undertakings concerning Crimean Tatars, Jews, Germans, Estonians, Poles and Bulgarians, Gipsies were analysed. It was shown there had been considerable differences in sets of practical methods of korenizatsia regarding different nations. A complex of measures concerning Crimean Tatars became the central line for korenizatsia. Creation and activity of Crimean Tatar national districts and village councils, formation of national proletariat and Soviet employees, development of hospitals, cultural and educational establishments were analysed. Realisation of korenizatsia in the field of industry, farming, medicine and culture was shown. Tatarizatsia involved considerable achievements, as well as miscalculations. The conclusion about the necessity to take into account experience of Crimean interwar korenizatsia in modern ethnic policy in Ukraine was substantiated.
