Essay

This dissertation presents a theoretical summary and a new solution to the problem of determination of hereditary predisposition to the occurrence of malignant tumors in children and young people. Clinical-genealogical peculiarities and distribution of disease-disposing gene genotypes associated with the development of leukemias, lymphomas in children and breast cancer in women have been determined and prevalence of malignant tumors has been analyzed following research works that were carried out on the young people in seven regions of the Western Ukraine during eight years. The work also presents measures elaborated for medical-genetic consulting of the high risk families aiming at prevention of new cases of malignant tumors. Analysis of prevalence of malignant neoplasms in the individuals of young age (0-34 years) has shown, that it remained unchanged in the seven regions of the Western Ukraine in the period from 1997 to 2004. There was found no difference in the prevalence of malignant neoplasms amongst the young population of the districts of Lviv, Rivne and Ternopil regions, while such difference exists in the districts of Volyn, Chernivtsi, Zakarpatska and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. There have been found positive correlation between prevalence of tumors and indices of harmful emissions into the atmosphere from motor transport in the Western regions of Ukraine.
