Karoeva T. Development of Book Culture as a Factor of Society Modernization in Ukrainian Provinces within the Period from the Latter Half of the XIX till the Forepart of the XX Century.

It has been proved in the dissertational study that book culture is a mean of cognition of society modernization mechanism and it enables to perform assessment of population involvement in that process. It has been ascertained that state policy directed at expansion of unified canon of book culture contributed to formation of integrated informational space of society that in turn created conditions under which social structure of communities was being homogenized, social, ethnic and gender differences were being eroded and a new unified identity was being formed. The study also concluded that public activities caused expansion of various canons of book culture and that in turn resulted in origination of local informational domains promoting further growth of individualism, ideological and cultural differentiation as well as professionalization of population.
